Sean Houlston has been selected as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Widnes and Halewood in the upcoming General Election on 4th July.
School governor and construction trade association manager, Sean, has racked up a strong record of delivery in the private, public and charity sectors.
As the founder of a digital campaigns and strategy company and holding a leading role at the oldest construction trade federation in England and Wales, the National Federation of Builders, Sean has advocated for construction and development on some of the country’s biggest projects ensuring community voices are heard in the planning process.
Outside of work, he has served as a volunteer and trustee of one of Cheshire’s best-run hospices, fundraising for end-of-life services and advocating for healthcare and is currently serving as chair of governors for a quickly improving school which recently secured a good Ofsted inspection.
Sean is the son of a factory worker and seamstress which he says helped to forge his worldview, political beliefs and his own values. Growing up in one of Cheshire’s industrial towns he wants to bring his beliefs in freedom, entrepreneurship and opportunity – including that every person should get the best start in life – to Widnes and Halewood.
Working with the Conservative Government and using his business background, Sean will build on successes including the record-breaking 90% of premises in Widnes and Halewood with access to ultrafast broadband, an extra £10.5m secured for Halton Borough Council and over 320 additional police officers recruited in Cheshire.
Labour have represented Widnes and Halewood since the 1940s. Sean said he is offering something different and has a clear plan to secure public and private investment in Widnes town centre and Hale’s community assets, tackle crime, improve education in the area, and fight against the highest-possible tax hikes imposed by Halton Borough Council.
He said: “I am honoured to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Widnes and Halewood, and I have seen first-hand the potential our northern communities have. I am committed to working tirelessly to bring about the positive opportunities we need.
“My experience in construction, education and business has equipped me with the skills to drive forward local projects, improve our education system, and secure vital investments.
“Together, we can build a brighter future for Widnes and Halewood, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity and freedom to thrive.”
